Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility Criteria

We are looking for motivated and passionate young individuals who are eager to contribute to a diverse and dynamic learning environment.

To apply through our UWC national committee, you must meet the following criteria:

1. Age requirement

In 2025, applicants must be born between September 2, 2008, and September 1, 2010, inclusive. We are unable to provide any exceptions to applicants whose date of birth is outside of this interval.

2. Educational background

Applicants must be currently enrolled in 10th or 11th grade in high school (or equivalent). We will also consider students of professional colleges in their 1st or 2nd year and applicants on a gap year.

We will not accept applications from students in 9th grade or below or from students at any higher education institutions.

Academic and extracurricular activities in UWC colleges are extremely rigorous. To ensure a candidate’s ability to succeed in all aspects of life, we judge candidates based on their past academic achievements. But while a strong academic record is important, we also value a demonstrated commitment to learning beyond the classroom.

3. Residency and nationality

Candidates applying through UWC Ukraine must be citizens of Ukraine and be able to provide one of the following:

Applicants do not need to live in Ukraine to apply. We welcome applications from internally displaced persons, refugees, residents of temporarily occupied territories, forcibly deported persons, or any other Ukrainian citizen, regardless of where they are in the world.

Foreign nationals residing in Ukraine can only apply through the Global Selection Programme.

If you are unsure if you should apply via a different UWC national committee, please contact us for clarification.

4. Personal qualities and values

While academic excellence is important, UWC seeks students who exhibit a strong commitment to UWC’s values:

Great applicants will be able to show the resilience and adaptability needed for an international and rigorous residential educational experience, as well as a strong desire to make a positive impact in their communities. They will be able to represent Ukraine well in their respective colleges, not shy away from difficult conversations, and be leaders for their peers.

5. Language requirements

UWC schools and colleges primarily use English as the language of instruction. We do not require perfect language skills to apply, but applicants should be able to understand others and communicate their thoughts on an acceptable level.

Most of our finalists have a B2 level of English or higher, but each year we also have finalists who have a slightly lower language level but exhibit a great motivation to improve. Those finalists usually get extra support once in college and are able to successfully complete their studies.

Not confident that your language skills are enough? We recommend you try applying anyway. You might be underestimating yourself, and the selection process will be a great way to practice your English!
