UWC Ukraine follows a thorough and well-rounded selection process to identify motivated and talented young Ukrainians who align with UWC’s values and mission.

1. Application stage (Round I)
Take the first step in the selection process by submitting an online application. This includes:
- Registering on the portal and completing a screening form to confirm eligibility.
- Completing an online application form with personal details, academic background, extracurricular activities, and motivations for applying to UWC.
- Submitting essays or short responses to demonstrate critical thinking and commitment to UWC values.
- Providing references from teachers, mentors, or community leaders (if your recommender does not speak English, they may submit the letter in Ukrainian)
- Uploading academic transcripts and other required documents.
- Signed permission from the parent or legal guardian.

2. Selection stage (Rounds II-IV)
After reviewing the initial applications, we will invite shortlisted candidates to participate in a multi-step selection process, which typically includes:
- Group Activities: Candidates engage in collaborative problem-solving tasks and discussions to assess teamwork, leadership, and adaptability.
- Project Presentations: Candidates may be asked to work in teams to develop a concept of a project or initiative that reflects their commitment to making a positive impact.
- Individual Interviews: An interview with National Committee members where applicants discuss their motivations, aspirations, and alignment with UWC’s values.
The entire selection process takes place online, which permits Ukrainians located around the world to participate.
All activities are conducted either in Ukrainian or English. This allows us to assess applicants’ ability to communicate with their peers on a UWC campus if selected. Unlike some other National Committees, UWC Ukraine does not use any formal written tests or exams (e.g., in English or math) as part of the selection process.
3. Nomination stage
Once the selection process is concluded, the National Committee determines the best UWC college placement for each finalist. While we ask finalists to indicate their preferences, they cannot choose a specific college or country, and the final decision may not align with their choices.
The financial assessment takes place only after finalists have been selected, to ensure that financial need does not affect the selection process. Finalists are asked to submit financial documents, based on which we determine the size of the scholarship and nominate them for placement. Once the placement is approved, finalists receive an offer from a UWC school or college. Depending on demonstrated need, the offer may be fully or partially funded. Finalists then complete all required paperwork to finalize enrollment.
